Topography and electrostatic interactions of electret fibres in N95 facemasks

چکیده

Facemasks have been a critical line of defense in the Covid-19 pandemic and used for decades to reduce inhalation sub-micron aerosols, including bacteria, viruses nano-materials. These facemasks leverage electrostatic charge properties non-woven electret fibre mats remove aerosols. However, topographical these not well characterized at nano-scale. In this study, we use atomic force microscopy (AFM) examine surface topography fibres within commercial respirator mat, map interactions emanating from fibres, synchrotron X-ray scattering probe polymer morphology. We find that exhibit significant heterogeneity topography, polypropylene phase composition. The topographies ranged nano-smooth surfaces ordered spherulitic structures. varied across length circumference, are only weakly correlated with features. Finally, AFM characterize after filtering NaCl aerosol deposited particles heterogeneous size distributed over surfaces.

Efficiency and Pressure Drop Effects of High Concentrations of Cement Dust on N95 Electret Filters

ield tests were conducted to measure the effects of high concentrations of cement dust on the penetration and pressure drop of N95 electret respirator filters from two manufacturers. Three groups of each manufacturer’s filter were tested: 1) untreated; 2) irradiated with ionizing radiation; 3) dipped in isopropanol for 15 seconds. The purpose of the irradiation and isopropanol treatments was to...

Influence of surface topography in electrostatic forces simulations for microassembly

Micro manipulations of objects between 10μm and 1mm by contact are often disturbed by adhesion between the handled object and the gripper. This is due to the presence of the surface forces which overcome gravity and prevent the release of the object. Capillary, electrostatic and van der Waals forces are the main surface forces responsible for this adhesive phenomenon. Several factors may influe...

Filter Performance Degradation of Electrostatic N95 and P100 Filtering Facepiece Respirators by Dioctyl Phthalate Aerosol Loading

Polydisperse dioctyl phthalate (DOP) aerosols are employed for testing filter penetration with loading of Rand P-series particulate filters for National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH) certification. Penetration for filters must not exceed NIOSH allowed maximum levels during the entire loading of 200 mg DOP indicating no filter degradation. Degradation of respirators loaded...
